The Joinery

In this artwork I decided to depict the relationship between two brewers. The widow confidently nails the board with a huge hammer, holding it in her powerful hands. This elderly woman is not a weak old lady, but a strong mentor leading her successor. She is a pub owner and a real boss running the business. It is no coincidence that they both doing repairs; this shows that they live without men and easily cope with everyday problems themselves. Such women may have been considered outcasts in the Middle Ages and found it difficult to maintain income and independence.
